BryksBuilt vs Hevy (2026): a workout tracker against a tracker with meals, a coach and real trainers in it

Hevy is one of the best pure lifting logs ever made and it costs almost nothing. BryksBuilt tracks your lifts too, then adds meal plans, recipes, grocery lists, food logging, an AI coach and a marketplace of real coaches. An honest comparison, with Hevy's own App Store numbers, on which one you should actually download.

Hevy is a workout tracker, one of the best ever made, with 4.9 stars from about 91,000 ratings and a Pro tier that costs less than a coffee a month. BryksBuilt is a workout tracker that also plans your meals, writes your grocery list, logs your food by photo, coaches you with AI, and puts real personal trainers inside the app. If you only want a lifting log, get Hevy. If you want one app for the whole thing, this page is for you.

We build BryksBuilt, so we are going to be careful here. Hevy earned those 91,000 ratings and we are not going to pretend our 31 are the same thing. What we can do is tell you exactly what each app is for, with Hevy's numbers read from its own App Store listing today.

What does each app cost?

BryksBuilt Hevy
Free version Workout tracking, food logging, recipes, grocery lists, community, a taste of the AI coach Unlimited routines, hundreds of exercises with videos, calendar, friends, rest timers, muscle group graphs
Paid tier Pro: the full AI coach, unlimited AI programs and meal plans; price shown in the App Store by country Pro: unlimited graph history, unlimited custom exercises, advanced measurements
Paid price See the App Store $2.99 or $3.99 a month, $23.99 a year, $74.99 lifetime
Ratings 5.0 from 31 (Canadian App Store) 4.9 from about 91,000 (US App Store)
Platforms iPhone, Android, plus a web portal for coaches iPhone, Android

Two things jump out. Hevy Pro is cheap because it unlocks depth in one thing. BryksBuilt Pro costs more because it unlocks an AI coach that builds programs and meal plans for you, which is a different product and priced like one. If you would never use the coach, you should not pay for it, and the free BryksBuilt still tracks your lifts and your food.

What do they have in common?

Both log sets, reps and weight fast, with rest timers and a big exercise library with video demos. Both show your progress over time. Both have a social layer where you can follow friends. Both are free to start on iPhone and Android. If a friend at the gym uses either one, you can train alongside them in it.

What does Hevy do better?

Pure logging. Hevy has spent years on the log screen and it shows. Routines, supersets, history, the little things. If you have never used it, it is a pleasure.

Price. $23.99 a year or $74.99 forever for Pro. That is hard to beat for a tracker.

Scale. About 91,000 ratings means about 91,000 people found the bugs before you did.

Exporting your workouts to an AI. Hevy's listing says you can send a finished workout to ChatGPT or Claude straight from the finish screen, and it describes a Hevy Trainer program feature. That is a clever way to get advice without building a coach into the app.

What does BryksBuilt do that Hevy does not?

Food. Barcode, photo and voice food logging, macros against your targets, and 522 curated recipes with their nutrition already done. Hevy's listing does not mention food at all.

Meal plans that become grocery lists. Pick a plan, or let the coach build one, and the grocery list writes itself. Nobody has to type "chicken breast" into a notes app.

An AI coach inside the app. Not a share button to another app. A coach that knows your workouts, your food and your goal, chats with you, builds a 12 week program, and adjusts it when you tell it your knee is angry.

Real trainers. BryksBuilt is also the app coaches run their businesses on. Browse coaches in the marketplace, book one, and their program, check ins and messages land in the app you already use. If you ever want a human, you do not need a second app.

Progress that includes more than lifts. Weight and body stats, progress photos, cardio with GPS, sleep and readiness, all in one place with one login.

The game layer. Levels and streaks that notice when you show up. We keep it in the background on purpose; it is there for the days motivation is not.

Who should download Hevy?

If you want a lifting log and nothing else, if your training history lives in Hevy and matters to you, or if $2.99 a month is your ceiling, download Hevy. It is excellent at what it does and we would rather you love your tracker than resent an app that does more than you asked.

Who should download BryksBuilt?

If you are tired of a tracker for lifts, a second app for food, a notes app for the grocery list and a coach on WhatsApp, BryksBuilt is the one app version of that stack. It is free to start, and the day you want a real coach, they are already inside it.

The one paragraph version

Hevy is the best pure lifting log you can buy for the price of a coffee. BryksBuilt is a lifting log plus the rest of getting fit: food, meal plans, groceries, an AI coach and real trainers, in one app. Pick the one that matches how much of your fitness you want in your pocket.

Questions people ask

The short answers

Is Hevy free?

Yes. Hevy's App Store listing says the free version includes unlimited routines, hundreds of exercises with videos, a calendar, friends, rest timers and muscle group graphs. Hevy Pro adds unlimited graph history, unlimited custom exercises and advanced measurements, listed at $2.99 or $3.99 a month, $23.99 a year, or $74.99 for life.

Is BryksBuilt free?

Yes. Workout tracking, food logging, recipes, the community and a taste of the AI coach are free. Pro unlocks the full AI coach plus unlimited AI generated programs and meal plans; its price shows in the App Store and varies by country.

Which is the better workout tracker on its own?

Hevy, and it is not close on maturity: 4.9 stars from about 91,000 ratings on the US App Store against our 5.0 from 31 on the Canadian one. If all you want is a lifting log, download Hevy and enjoy it.

Does Hevy track food or meal plans?

Not on its App Store listing. Hevy is a workout tracker. BryksBuilt tracks food by barcode, photo and voice, builds meal plans and grocery lists, and ships 522 recipes.

Can I import my Hevy history into BryksBuilt?

Not today. You start fresh in BryksBuilt, which is a fair reason to keep Hevy if your history matters more to you than nutrition and coaching do.

Does either one connect me with a real trainer?

BryksBuilt does. Real coaches have profiles in the app and you can book one; when you do, their programs, check ins and messages land in the same app you already train in. Hevy's listing describes friends and an AI program feature, not a coach marketplace.
